Fire Worship in Profile
Fire Worship in Profile: Evening finds pandits (Hindu priests) performing the Aarti Ceremony -the “Agni Pooja” (Worship to Fire), using different fire bearing vessels, seen through shrouds of smoke at Assi Ghat, Varanasi India.
Accompanied by changing, or songs, in praise of Mother Ganga; supposedly the lamps acquire the power of the deity and so, after the ritual is complete, devotees will cup their hands over the flame and raise their palms to their forehead and thereby obtain the Goddess's purification and blessing.
