Worship to Fire
Worship to Fire: Evening finds pandits (Hindu priests) performing the Aarti Ceremony -the “Agni Pooja” (Worship to Fire), using different fire bearing vessels they are held in a shroud of smoke, riverside at the Assi Ghat, Varanasi India.
Accompanied by changing, or songs, in praise of Mother Ganga; supposedly the lamps acquire the power of the deity and so, after the ritual is complete, devotees will cup their hands over the flame and raise their palms to their forehead in order to get the Goddess's purification and blessing.
